On Saturday, 11 October, Keith Towler, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, addressed Mudiad Meithrin’s Annual General Meeting which was held at Canolfan MedRus, Aberystwyth University Campus, at 10.30 am.
Over 85 delegates are attended to celebrate the work accomplished by Mudiad Meithrin over the past financial year.
Keith Towler presented his keynote speech at 11.00. Speaking ahead of the event, Keith Towler said:
“Mudiad Meithrin’s continued pursuit to give every child in Wales the opportunity to benefit from early year care and education experiences through the medium of Welsh has been a real success. I’m looking forward to speaking with its members this weekend about building on that work to ensure children are seen as active citizens in Wales and about the challenges of poverty on childhood.”
Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Mudiad Meithrin’s new Chief Executive presented the Annual Report for 2013–2014 and talked about all the new developments that have taken place in the organisation during the past year, as well as sharing her vision on the direction of Mudiad Meithrin’s activities for the next 10 years.
"As the main provider of Early Years Care and Education though the medium of Welsh, it is important for us to report on a very important year in the development of the Mudiad and we are proud to receive the recognition of the Children’s Commissioner through his presence in the meeting. We have over a thousand cylchoedd meithrin and Ti a Fi groups providing quality care as well as a warm welcome to every child, so it’s easy to see the relevance of our work to the priorities of the Commissioner. As we look to the future, our goal is to expand our work further to increase the number of children who receive Welsh-medium care and education by recognizing gaps and concentrating on developing the workforce through the Mudiad’s sub-company, Cam wrth Gam.”
