On Saturday morning, 2 June, at 9.45 am, around 200 children aged between 2 – 5 years old from Cylchoedd Meithrin (Welsh-medium playgroups) and Primary School Reception Classes in Brecon and Radnorshire will star in the Pasiant Meithrin (Nursery Pageant) hosted by Mudiad Meithrin on the main Pavilion stage at the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Llanelwedd. The Pasiant Meithrin is organised by Mudiad Meithrin and the performance will last approximately 20 minutes.
Mudiad Meithrin is responsible for co-ordinating the Pasiant Meithrin, which this year is called ‘Rhy Gynnar i’r Sioe!’ (which translated means ‘Too early for the Show!’)
Olwen Jones, Mudiad Meithrin’s Support Officer for South Powys, said:
“Because the Urdd Eisteddfod is being held the Royal Welsh Show showground this year, we chose songs relating to animals that are familiar to the children as part of the Pageant – a number of them are traditional Welsh nursery rhymes. All the children have been absolutely brilliant, and although they are very young, the singing is excellent – what better way of celebrating Welsh-medium education at its best than in the company of talented toddlers from the Eisteddfod area of Brecon and Radnorshire. We hope the audience will have learnt a few new Welsh songs by the end of the performance as well!”
Following the performance on Saturday several parties will be held at Mudiad Meithrin’s stand for all the children who took part in the Pasiant and each one will be presented with a certificate to remind them of the special occasion.
Heather Davies-Rollinson, Mudiad Meithrin’s Mid and South-West Regional Manager, and one of the Pasiant Meithrin organisers, said:
“We are extremely grateful to all involved for their co-operation which has enabled us to stage the Pasiant Meithrin this year, especially to Aeron Pughe for playing a lead role in the performance, to Olwen Jones for writing the script, to Jill Lewis for accompanying on the piano, to all the local Cylchoedd Meithrin leaders and the parents – and most of all to all the toddlers who will be the stars of the show!”
