Cam wrth Gam Awards Ceremony 2019

On Friday 5 July a special ceremony was held at The Village Hotel, Swansea to present certificates in the early years to 85 school pupils who are part of the Cam wrth Gam Schools project which is managed by Mudiad Meithrin.

More than 180 family members and friends of the successful students travelled from all over Wales to be present on this special occasion. More than 1,200 pupils have qualified since this specialist service for Welsh-medium secondary schools started in 2006.

This year 12 schools took part in the Cam wrth Gam project, which offers courses to pupils in secondary schools as part of the school curriculum.

The course offers a Level 2 certificate in Childcare and Education and a Level 2 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development as well as a Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. The courses are accredited by the CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) awarding body.

The certificates were presented to pupils by the actor, Carwyn Glyn, who is best known for playing the role of DJ in the S4C TV soap opera Pobol y Cwm.

Amongst the guest speakers were Dr Llinos Jones, Head of Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Carmarthen, Karina Poultney-Shaw, Subject Specialist for CACHE, and former student, Natasha Jones.

This year for the first time we honoured the’ Learner of the Year’. There was a winner for each course as well as an overall National winner in this CACHE-sponsored competition.

Eunice Jones, National Training Scheme Manager, said:

“Cam wrth Gam works closely with head teachers and local authorities to provide the best training programmes to meet the needs of the school and the community. Tutors, assessors and verifiers possessing the appropriate experience and qualifications provide course flexibility tailored to the individual needs of the learner.

“It has been a pleasure to adjudicate the ‘Learner of the Year ‘competition this year. I have seen these young people working with children at grass-roots level by putting into practice what they have learnt in the classroom.

“Twelve schools have been part of the Cam wrth Gam training scheme this year. We have recently received the excellent news that we have been accepted onto the TRAC scheme in North Wales. From September we can offer this provision to schools in that area. Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, Penygroes has already decided to join the scheme in September.”

Carwyn Glyn presented awards to The Learner of the Year winners, who were:
