On Tuesday 26 January at 2.00pm Alwen Williams, Director of BT Wales launched Academi’s first courses at 'Cylch Meithrin Academi' in Mudiad Meithrin’s office in Cardiff Gate Business Park, Cardiff.
Alwen Williams, Director of BT Wales said:
"It was a privilege to be able to provide advice as a consultant at the beginning of the journey to establish an ambitious plan by Mudiad Meithrin to set up Academi 12 months ago. It is very exciting to be able to launch the first courses under Academi which gives workers and volunteers in Mudiad Meithrin’s community the chance to develop their skills and knowledge at any time and from anywhere."
Following Academi’s successful launch at the National Eisteddfod in Montgomeryshire and the Marches by the First Minister Carwyn Jones, the Mudiad are launching Academi’s first courses – some are available online, others are offered at local venues and at ‘Cylch Meithrin Academi’ located at Mudiad Meithrin’s offices in Cardiff. The aims of Academi are to identify talent, develop understanding and increase ability.
The range of courses that are available are included in the new prospectus. New courses will be added to the prospectus on a regular basis depending on the needs and requirements of the staff and volunteers at the ‘Cylchoedd Meithrin’ (Welsh-medium playgroups). What Academi has to offer is unique, an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge free of charge by learning from anywhere and at any time. Amongst the courses offered are 'The Mud Kitchen’, 'The Social Media', 'What is the Foundation Phase?' and 'Staff Performance Management'.
Dona Lewis, Mudiad Meithrin’s Deputy Chief Executive and the founder of Academi said:
“Academi is the first initiative of its kind by Mudiad Meithrin, it provides new and unique opportunities for the staff and volunteers who work in our Welsh-medium early years provisions (Mudiad Meithrin’s community). Establishling Academi supports the development of the Welsh Government policy to develop and upskill staff in the early years sector over the next 10 years.'
"We are very grateful to Alwen Williams for her contribution as we developed the early ideas of this exciting scheme. Academi belongs to the whole community of Mudiad Meithrin and we are pleased to see that the first courses are filling up quickly."
