Mudiad Meithrin has expressed disappointment that Dewin – the Mudiad’s unique friend to all the children of Wales - has asked the Executive Committee of Mudiad Meithrin to change his name from Dewin to Dewi.
Dewin, Mudiad’s lovable character, said:
"I've been very happy with the name Dewin over the last few years, but I feel that Dewi is more of a Welsh name and it’s a name that links me to the patron saint of Wales, ‘Dewi Sant’. I'm quite happy to continue in my role as the public face of Mudiad Meithrin and as a friend to all the children of Wales."
By doing this, Dewin puts the Mudiad in a difficult and complex situation. Having just recently launched their vision for the next decade at Mudiad Meithrin. The name of that document is 'Dewiniaith' not 'Dewiiaith'.
A consultation process has begun to discuss the matter, with Doti present and working on behalf of Dewin as his legal counsel.
Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies said, Chief Executive of Mudiad Meithrin:
"By adopting a new name for Dewin, the organization will have to add another point to Dewiniaith a vision for the next 10 years. I think that that document is long enough as it is."
