Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin was first established in 1971:
- to found and develop Ysgolion Meithrin
- to support and promote Welsh-medium Education.
In 1981 there were 350 cylchoedd meithrin in Wales and 40 cylchoedd Ti a Fi. This growth was supported with the statistics from the 1981 census, where it was noted that the percentage of children aged 3-4 being able to speak Welsh had grown from 11.3% to 13.3% in 1981.
When the Mudiad was celebrating its 40th birthday in 2011, it was decided that this was a suitable occasion for the Mudiad to have a new name and logo. The Mudiad had grown and developed from being an organisation that was formed originally to establish ‘ysgolion meithrin’ (nursery schools) throughout Wales, to one that is developed into an organisation of national status which is acknowledged as the ‘Welsh early years specialists’ in Wales.
Therefore it was decided to change the name from Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin to Mudiad Meithrin. Below is Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin's logo, this was changed to our current logo as well in 2011
